Happy Emancipation Day! Did you know that in the 1870s, a group of Black residents here in Houston raised the money to buy 10 acres of land and create Emancipation Park – a place to formally celebrate Juneteenth?
Below are some events to commemorate Jubilee Day, especially as it is now an officially federal holiday:
Friday, June 18th
Neyow's Creole Cafe- Happy Hour from 4:00 PM-7:00 PM
Saturday, June 19th
Lucille's 1913 will be serving meals between 11:00 AM-1:00 PM at the Emancipation Park Conservancy.
Parade in Galveston beginning at 1:00 PM which will be followed by a picnic.
Enjoy an art exhibit at the Prime Art Gallery at 11002 Westheimer Road. Get your free tickets here.
Enjoy tunes by Grammy-award winner Bobby Rush at the Miller Outdoor Theater.

Spice Jamaica- What began as a catering business, has expanded into a line of Caribbean spices and seasoning. Be on the lookout for Aldaine's next event on Instagram where you can enjoy Jamaican specialties such as jerk chicken, oxtail, and fried plantains. This Saturday, the owner/chef will be selling serving plates at Shiloh church on June 19th starting at noon.
